Replacement heifers
Raised on grass. Bred by AI.
We raise our replacement heifers on pasture outside Sundance, Wyoming. Every one of them is bred AI (artificially inseminated). No cover bull.
No dry lot.
Our heifers grow up on grass. When the grass needs help, they get supplement. That way they learn to make a living out there, the same way they’ll have to in your herd.
There’s research behind it, too. South Dakota State University compared heifers developed on range with heifers developed in a dry lot. The range heifers bred just as well, and a change in feed after breeding didn’t set them back as much.

Every heifer AI bred. No cover bull.
- You’ll know the sire on every calf.
- You’ll know the day she was bred, so you’ll know when she’s due.
- There’s no bull out in the pasture, so there’s no guessing who bred her or when.

Gaining through preg check.
That same research found the biggest thing costing pregnancies was heifers losing weight between AI and preg check. Ours stay on grass and keep gaining the whole way from breeding to preg check.
Since every heifer has an AI date, figuring her due date is easy. Put it in the Calving Calculator.
